Work starts on 2.5m Dipton care home

29 Nov 11 Property and construction consultancy, Building Surveyors Limited has started work on a £2.5 million care home in Dipton, County Durham on the former Bute Arms site.

The three storey development which will offer 70 beds for those suffering from dementia in addition to ordinary nursing care will include a cinema room, hairdressers, and first-rate catering facilities.

Originally appointed in May 2009 as employer’s agent, Building Surveyors Limited procured a design team in order to advance the project to start on site. The company is now undertaking project management, which will enable the scheme to reach completion in summer 2012.Building Surveyors are working alongside Projekt Architects and MGM Limited.

Chris Jude, director of Building Surveyors said: “We are delighted to be working on the new care home, which will provide excellent facilities and where the renewable energy strategy we have adopted will make the building energy efficient. We have taken on the challenges that the split level site will create, with a building design that will provide attractive views for the residents over the Derwent valley.

The Manor House care home appointment by the Pattinson family follows a highly successful partnership between the developer and Building Surveyors Limited at the Listed Buttress building on Newcastle’s Quayside last year.

The scheme which saw the redevelopment of the significant building into a new bar, restaurant and office accommodation, was presented with a RICS Renaissance Award under the conservation category at regional level and was further shortlisted for the nationalRICS Awards Grand Final in October.

The care home will create 80 full and part time jobs upon its opening.
