The West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) is one of 15 national AHSNs established in 2013 to cover the NHS in England. In its first 6 years WMAHSN has developed into the regions primary agency for driving the adoption and spread of healthcare innovation. WMAHSN is hosted by University Hospitals of Birmingham (UHB). The AHSN has 6 primary workstreams geared towards supporting the adoption and uptake of innovations which deliver clear patient and system benefits.

— innovation adoption – driving the adoption of 22 ground breaking innovations in over 30 healthcare sites across the region. Over 30 000 patients are benefiting from these new innovations which range from medical devices to medicines and new pathways.

— WM patient safety collaborative – improving safety through best practice to reduce patient harm across a number of settings including pharmacy, maternity, GP and care homes,

— genomics and precision medicine – delivering the 100 000 genome project and regional.
