Neil Sherreard joined Cowlin in 1987 and rose to managing director in 2000.  In the next seven years he grew turnover from £17m to £200m before managing the sale of the business to Balfour Beatty in 2007, at the top of the market and just before to the credit crunch.

Mr Sherreard continued at Cowlin after the sale to Balfour Beatty as managing director of Cowlin in the southwest and a director of Balfour Beatty Scottish and Southern division.

He left this week to start new ventures, including a property development company. He is also in discussions with a number of construction-related companies about consultancy and non-executive director roles, and has already agreed a part-time directorship at construction PR firm bClear Communication.

Mr Sherreard said: “After almost 25 years at Cowlin it was time to move on and explore new opportunities. It has been four years since we completed the sale to Balfour Beatty. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time there but I’m looking forward to new challenges using my expertise to assist other companies achieve similar levels of success to those at Cowlin.”
