Bam lands €420m wastewater tunnel

24 Jan 12 Royal Bam Group tunnel specialist Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau has won a €420m (£350m) tunnelling contract in Germany.

The scheme involves construction of a 35km-long underground wastewater pipeline for the Emschergenossenschaft water management association.

The project is part of a major modernisation of the wastewater system. It involves the construction of a pipeline between Dortmund and Bottrop to carry wastewater to a water purification plant near Bottrop. The underground pipeline, which will be built in the form of a tunnel, will vary in diameter from 1.6m to 2.8m and will run parallel to the River Emscher.

Work is expected to take five years.
