Spire London is set to be the tallest residential tower in western Europe, standing at a 235 metres (771ft) high over West India Quay in London Docklands. It is already well into its first construction phase. Work will start on the basement and main build by the end of 2017.

Aecom has signed a pre-construction services agreement for the main construction works.

Aecom acquired the US contractor Tishman Construction in 2010. It recently completed the 1,776 ft tall One World Trade Centre in New York and is credited with having delivered 58% of the new buildings over 1,000 feet tall in New York City since 2009.

Spire London is to be 67 storeys high, providing 861 apartments ranging from one- to three-bedroom in size. It has been designed by architects Larry Malcic and Christopher Colosimo of HOK, along with interior designer Nicola Fontanella of Argent.

Spire London’s construction continues on schedule and foundations specialist Bachy Soletanche, is due to complete piling works by November 2017. Bachy Soletanche is responsible for delivering the geotechnical package on the development, and has set a new UK record for static load testing of piled foundations, achieving a maximum loading force in excess of 100 MN, using the Osterberg Cell technique.

Aecom Construction Services president Dan McQuade flew from New York to London to sign the contract on 30th May 2017 with Greenland Group vice-resident Xinyu Lu, who himself flew in from Shanghai.

Wenhao Qian, managing director of Greenland (UK) Investments, said: “Spire London is set to become one of London’s iconic, landmark buildings, and it is vital that we have the right team in place that can deliver a project of this scale.  Aecom has been a trusted partner for Greenland on our extensive portfolio, and we are delighted to have awarded them the pre-construction services agreement for the main construction works. We look forward to building our relationship with them as we work together to bring Spire London to life.”

In addition, on 19th May, Greenland Group signed a pre-construction services agreement for cladding with Permasteelisa Group. The cladding contract is one of the largest construction packages for the project.

Spire London is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2020.
