Aecom to design $1bn Aussie road scheme

6 Mar 13 An Aecom Australian subsidiary is part of the winning consortium for a contract to improve access to Perth Airport.

The consortium of companies has formed an alliance with Main Roads Western Australia to deliver the state’s largest road project, the Gateway WA, which has a construction value of US$1.05bn (£673m).

As design partner, Aecom’s contribution is expected to generate revenue of more than US$10m. The alliance also includes design partners GHD and BG&E, and construction partners Leighton Contractors and Georgiou Group.

“We are eager to partner with Main Roads Western Australia on this key transportation infrastructure project,” said John Dionisio, Aecom chairman and chief executive officer. “We look forward to helping improve airport access for Western Australia residents, business travellers and visitors, and to enabling better management of the increasing traffic around and through the airport.”

The project will upgrade the Tonkin and Leach highways, and will include the construction of five new interchanges to create landmark road infrastructure around Perth Airport as well as surrounding industrial and freight hubs.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and is expected to be completed by 2017, ahead of the planned consolidation of Perth Airport’s domestic and international terminals during 2018.
