One involved the theft of a Bomag BW120 roller and was the theft of a Caterpillar AT 301.4 excavator. Both machines were fitted with an AMI Nexis GPS tracking system and both were recovered within the Thames Valley area.

On Wednesday 25th February AMI’s monitoring station received a call regarding the theft of the Bomag roller. The AMI Nexis system provided GPS data for a storage yard just off the M25. AMI notified the police and the Plant & Agricultural National Intelligence Unit (PANIU).

AMI’s monitoring station informed the customer of the roller’s location and continued monitoring.

The police arrived on site and found 12 shipping containers and two buildings, but then had to leave to get a warrant. The AMI monitoring station continued to monitor the Bomag and when it was moved to a new location told the owner where it now was.

The customer arrived at the new location before the police to witness the roller being loaded into a white Transit van. Thames Valley police were on site within 10 minutes and the roller recovered.

Two days later, on Friday 27th February, AMI’s monitoring station received a call regarding the theft of a CAT 301.4 excavator. The AMI Nexis system provided GPS indicating that the machine was at a caravan site off Reading Road, Reading. At AMI’s suggestion, the machine’s owner called the police to the caravan site and was able to recover the police.

In both incidents, AMI is providing support for ongoing police enquiries.
