Balfour Beatty lands £11m London Underground power work

6 Jan 15 Balfour Beatty has been awarded a contract to design, upgrade and install more than 40km of cables for London Underground.

Balfour Beatty’s Power Systems business will installation 11kV and 22kV electricity cables, as well as fibre optic pilot cables. It will also decommission old high voltage cables.

Work starts in January 2015 and is scheduled to be complete in early 2017.

The project is designed to improve resilience across London Underground’s power supply infrastructure and includes work to renew cabling and connect several substations to key power supply points.

Balfour Beatty was selected for three out of the four work lots awarded under the £250m power cabling framework in spring 2014.

Balfour Beatty Power Systems director William Naismith said: “This award demonstrates our ability to improve and maintain London Underground’s infrastructure. We have a long and established relationship with our customer and we look forward to delivering this project, from design through to installation, testing and maintenance.”
