Barr confirmed for Darlington's £30m cinema complex

The Feethams Leisure complex is being built on the site of the town’s former bus station. It will create an additional 13,000m² of leisure, retail and restaurant space in the town centre. As previously reported, it will include a nine screen Vue cinema and an 80-bed Premier Inn hotel.

Barr has been on site since September last year carrying out enabling works before starting on the steelwork. The project is expected to be complete in early 2016.

This will be one of the final projects delivered under the Barr Construction banner following the recent merger with McLaughlin & Harvey. McLaughlin & Harvey acquired Barr Holdings in 2007 but only last month consolidated the branding under the McLaughlin & Harvey name.

Barr construction director Paul Griffen said: “We have just completed site clearance and enabling works and we will be seeking to work with local labour, suppliers and subcontractors wherever possible on this project.”

Barr Construction has also been appointed by developer Terrace Hill as main contractor at Gateway Middlehaven Retail Park in Middlesbrough.
