Bellway sees northern uplift

10 Feb 15 National house-builder Bellway has seen more growth in its northern business over the past six months than in the south of England.

Bellway said that in the six months to 31st January 2015 it had completed 23.6% more homes across its seven northern divisions than in the same period the year before – 1,822 homes, up from 1,474.

By comparison, its southern divisions saw a 9.1% increase to 1,932 homes up from 1,771.

Across the group there was a 15.7% increase in the number of housing completions to 3,754 (2014 H1: 3,245).

Bellway said that its housing revenue had risen 19% to more than £820m for the six-month period  (2014 H1: £688.2m) and the operating margin for the first half of the year is expected to approach 20%, up from 15.6% last year.

Chief executive Ted Ayres said: "The group's strategy of delivering volume growth, with a strong focus on return on capital employed has resulted in a further significant rise in profitability.  With advanced plans to open a sixteenth division in the second half of the financial year, Bellway is well positioned to deliver further earnings growth."
