John Carlin joins Wates after 24 years with Bowmer & Kirkland, latterly as divisional director for retail and mixed-use projects.

His brief at Wates is to help win business as the group seeks to double its turnover to £2bn.

Mr Carlin said: “I am joining Wates at an exciting time, with a diverse range of projects and an exceptional team to take forward and build on the business’ ongoing success. I bring to my new role an ambition to strengthen relationships with clients, both new and existing, and ensure that we continue to deliver the exceptional standards upon which Wates’ reputation has been established.

“I firmly believe that a business is built on the expertise of its people, particularly when their culture, work ethic and commitment to excellence is wholly aligned. I am now focussed on meeting the teams on the ground and supporting them in delivering high quality projects with health and safety, value for money and innovation as our core priorities.”

Phil Harrison, managing director of Wates Construction Midlands & North, said: “As a champion of innovation, John’s drive to be best-in-class together with his impressive team ethic will significantly enhance our already strong presence in the Midlands.”
