Brookfield Multiplex contract creates jobs in Sydney

1 Mar 13 Contractor Brookfield Multiplex has been appointed to build the new clinical services building at the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) in North Sydney, Australia.

The project will create 2,200 jobs when construction is at its peak.

The construction contract for client Health Infrastructure will deliver an additional 30,000m2 of health services to the campus. It forms part of Health Infrastructure’s overall capital budget of AU$150m (£101m), which will be funded by the New South Wales state government.

“This appointment builds on our reputation for delivering vital health projects in New South Wales and around the world,” said David Ghannoum, regional managing director of New South Wales at Brookfield Multiplex. “We look forward to returning to the campus and working with the RNSH once again to deliver a contemporary new facility that supports its high standards of health care.”

The nine-level Clinical Services Building will connect with the hospital’s existing infrastructure and services.

The RNSH is one of the state’s major trauma centres. The new building will provide a variety of services including a private mental health unit, a women’s health and maternity unit, a general in patient unit and a severe burns unit.

The facility, designed by Building Studio Architects and Woods Bagot, will incorporate new technologies and have a flexible form to ensure that emerging trends in clinical practice and care models can be easily incorporated into the building.

Construction will start next month with the building expected to be fully operational in late 2014.
