Cowi reviews Murphy’s wind farm cabling plans

11 Jan 23 Swedish energy company Vattenfall has commissioned Danish consulting engineer Cowi to review its cabling plans for the Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farm.

Cowi has been awarded a contract by Vattenfall for the oversight of the detailed design phase of the onshore cable installation for the Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farm.

The project is the first phase of Vattenfall’s 3.6GW Norfolk offshore wind zone, located 47km off the Norfolk coast.

Cowi will review the plans – drawn up by contractor J Murphy & Sons – to install 60km of cables that will connect where the Norfolk Boreas development makes landfall at Happisburgh, to the Necton National Grid substation.

Cowi will ensure compliance to all technical, safety, quality and sustainability requirements as the cabling works cross a railway line, a major road, countless local roads and several rivers.

Vattenfall project director Rob Anderson said “We’re delighted to have Cowi on board providing oversight of the work onshore, and making sure that it’s carried out safely and sustainably.”
