"Doosan Babcock has a long history of supporting EDF Energy in the UK nuclear sector and we are delighted to have been given this opportunity to further build our relationship," said Doosan Babcock's nuclear services director, Cameron Gilmour.

EDF plans to extend the operational lifetime of seven UK nuclear plants, with the Dungeness B nuclear plant in Kent, for example, to run until 2028, by when it will have been in operation for 45 years.

Doosan Babcock said that the deal would continue until the last of the advanced gas cooled reactor stations ceased power generation. EDF said earlier this month that "based on the expected life extensions, all seven of our AGR stations will be operating in 2023".
