Extension for Skanska’s tube maintenance contract

12 Jun 15 London Underground has extended Skanska’s four-year civil engineering maintenance contract for a further two years.

Working alongside London Underground, Skanska will continue to maintain more than 1,000 bridges and 125 tunnels across routes that include the Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City, District, Bakerloo, Central, Victoria and Circle lines.

Operations cover track and depot drainage, vegetation and coating management, pest control, platform ramps, bridges and viaducts, earth structures, support services and emergency reactive works.

Covering two thirds of the Tube network, the contract began in 2011 with the possibility of an extension, depending upon performance.

Campbell McKechan, Skanska’s contract manager, said he thought that Skanska’s safety record played a role in London Underground's decision to extend the contract. “Over 110 staff work every night in dark and inclement conditions, and despite these challenges I’m incredibly proud to say that we and our wider supply chain have worked almost one million hours accident-free,” he said.
