Ferrovial team lands €1bn contract for Slovak highway

1 Feb 16 A consortium headed by Ferrovial subsidiary Cintra has been named as preferred bidder for the D4 and R7 motorway project in Bratislava.

It will be Cintra’s first project in the Slovak Republic.

Ferrovial Agroman will handle design and construction of the project, which represents a total investment of approximately €1.01bn (£768m).

The project will create a ring road around Bratislava, the D4, and a new radial road, R7.

The Slovakia Ministry of Transport has appointed the consortium to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the scheme. Other consortium members include Australian group Macquarie and Austrian construction company Porr.

The new 27km D4 will have two lanes in each direction and will create a beltway to the east of the city and a connection with existing radial roads. The project also involves building the new 32-kilometre R7 radial highway, with two to three lanes each way, running in a south-easterly direction from the city centre.

Cintra will develop this project, while design and construction will be carried out by a joint venture headed by Ferrovial Agroman with Porr. Operation and maintenance will be handled by the concession company.

The concession will run for 34 years and construction is expected to take four years. Financial closure is expected in the second quarter of this year.
