Final contract awarded for Western Australia link road

30 Jan 17 Main Roads Western Australia has awarded CPB Contractors a AU$175m (£105m) contract to build the northern section of NorthLink WA road.

The design and construct contract is for a dual carriageway between Ellenbrook and Muchea.

It is the third and final contract for the AU$1.12bn NorthLink WA project, which will provide a continuous connection from the Perth Airport area through to Muchea as well as forming part of a new freight connection to Fremantle Port. Laing O'Rourke and BGC had been awarded the central section earlier this month (link opens in new tab).

CPB is the construction arm of Cimic, whose majority shareholder is Hochtief. Cimic chief executive officer Adolfo Valderas said: “The NorthLink WA northern section will provide a vital road portal for traffic and freight movements to commercial and industrial areas north of Perth, as well as improved safety, reduced congestion and faster travel times for road users.”

The NorthLink northern section include new junctions at Stock Road, Neaves Road and Muchea, bridges built over local roads, railways and Ellen Brook, and separate cycling and pedestrian paths to improve connections between local communities.

Construction is scheduled to start in the middle of this year for completion in 2019. Construction is already well under way on Stage 1, Stage 2 is starting.
