Financial close reached on €700m Netherlands highway tunnel

26 Nov 14 A €700m (£555m) PPP project that involves construction of a 3km highway tunnel in Amsterdam has reached financial close.

Mott MacDonald is lenders’ technical advisor to the IXAS Zuid-Oost consortium for the A9 Gaasperdammerweg public-private partnership project and will also be monitoring construction. The company provided due diligence and technical reports to support financial close.

The project involves the reconstruction and expansion of the A9 motorway in Amsterdam. There will also be a 20-year management and maintenance period after the new infrastructure becomes available. Work includes replacing the bridge over the River Gaasp, relaying the surface of the motorway and constructing a new 3km overground tunnel, designed to improve air quality and minimise noise pollution. Additional lanes will be provided to improve traffic flow and accessibility of the Northern Randstad area.

Construction work is due to begin in the summer of 2015, with the tunnel expected to be available for traffic in 2020.
