Gamesa makes mark on UK wind power market

10 Jun 15 Spanish contractor Gamesa is becoming a major player in the UK renewable energy sector after booking orders to supply and erect 115 wind turbines around the UK.

Energy company Renewable Energy Generation has done a deal for Gamesa to manufacture, erect, commission and maintain 19 turbines, under a £48m deal.

The turbines will be put up over the next 18 months at French Farm (4MW), Rodbaston (4MW), Brackagh Quarry (6MW), Mynydd Portref (12MW) and Hallburn Farm (12MW).

This deal follows a much larger order that Gamesa took two weeks ago from Spanish-owned ScottishPower Renewables to suppy and erect 96 turbines at the Kilgallioch wind farm in southern Scotland.

Gamesa will handle the supply, transportation, installation and commissioning of 94 of its G114-2.5 MW turbines and two of its G90-2.0 MW turbines Kilgallioch. Delivery of the turbines is expected to begin in February 2016 and the wind farm's construction is slated for completion during the first quarter of 2017.
