GAP takes Hewden’s Brighton depot

14 Dec 16 GAP Hire Solutions has bought a plant and equipment depot in East Sussex from the administrators of Hewden.

GAP’s new depot on the Malling Brooks Industrial Estate in Lewes, near Brighton, takes the number of outlets in its London & Southeast region to 29. Across the UK, GAP has more than 130 depots.

Joint managing director Douglas Anderson said: “We are delighted to be strengthening our presence in the southeast. The investment is consistent with the company’s strategy of growing the business organically and through acquisition. The site improves our customer service capability in the region and is fully equipped with the most innovative plant and tool hire equipment in the industry. It’s fantastic we can safeguard jobs in the area, especially in the run-up to Christmas.”

Hewden collapsed into adminstration last month. A-Plant paid the administrators £29m for Hewden's powered access and power generation fleet, the Interlift lifting and materials handling business and the Hewden brand name. A-Plant has also taken over Hewden's five ‘on-site’ depots that service petrochemical customers.

The remaining depot network, the crane hire business and other plant and equipment are subject to negotations.
