The project aims to maintain and enhance lifeline ferry services between the island of Arran and mainland Scotland for the next 60 years. The client is Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL).

Most of the existing facility was constructed in the early 1970s and while upgrade and maintenance work has been carried out over the years, the infrastructure is now reaching the end of its serviceable life, CMAL said.

George Leslie said that it plans to start on site early in the New Year and completion is expected in early 2017.

CMAL’s head of civil engineering, Ramsay Muirhead, said: “The ferry terminal infrastructure at Brodick is now nearing the end of its serviceable life and the project will see the harbour transformed. The new pier will allow a wider range of vessels to berth and the new terminal building will improve the passenger experience. This project will bring significant economic benefit to the Island and we will continue to work with the local community and businesses to ensure that these benefits are maximised.

George Leslie managing director John McNaught said: “George Leslie Ltd are delighted to have been awarded the contract and we are looking forward to working with CMAL to make a positive impact within the community on Arran throughout the delivery of this important project.”

The contractor will be introduced to locals at a public meeting at Brodick Hall on the Isle of Arran on Thursday 3rd December 2015 at 7.30pm.
