Jacobs joins team for $620m Australian road scheme

9 Sep 16 Jacobs Engineering Group has announced that it is part of the design team appointed by the consortium awarded the contract for the AU$620m (£355m) Darlington Upgrade project in Adelaide, Australia.

The design joint venture of Jacobs, KBR and SMEC Australia has been selected by the Gateway South Consortium, which is made up of Fulton Hogan and Laing O’Rourke.

Gateway South Consortium’s design-build contract involves the next stage in the upgrade of one of the regions’ most important transport corridors.

Requirements of the design joint venture include the reconfiguration of the existing 3.3km road from the Southern Expressway to north of Tonsley Boulevard, as well as the design of a lowered, motorway passing underneath a number of roads.

Most of the detailed design and approvals work is scheduled to begin this year, with all ground works expected to be completed by 2018.
