McAleer & Rushe wins Dublin hotel contract

4 Mar 15 McAleer & Rushe has signed a deal to convert a Dublin office building into a Holiday Inn Express.

The €13.8m (£10m) contract will transform Findlater House in the city centre into the 198-bed hotel. The ICA-designed scheme sets out to integrate the unloved 1970s block into O’Connell Street, Dublin’s most famous thoroughfare.

The existing façade is to be be re-clad with a granite rainscreen system. The accommodation at ground floor is completed by a new coffee shop and the existing upper floors from first to fourth/fifth, will contain hotel guest rooms In addition the existing sixth floor will be removed and replaced; this will also contain hotel guest rooms.

McAleer & Rushe Contracts UK managing director Martin Magee said: “McAleer & Rushe’s involvement signals our confidence in Dublin’s resurgence. The works include the complete soft strip of the building, removal of plant rooms and the existing façade, reconfiguration of the internal cores and construction of an additional floor.”

The Holiday Inn Express Dublin - City Centre is set to open in spring 2016 and will operate under a franchise agreement . Sunil Joginpally, owner of Findlater House Ltd and Holiday Inn Express Dublin – City Centre said: “We’re really excited to be bringing the Holiday Inn Express brand to Dublin’s vibrant City centre. We couldn’t have asked for a better location."

Virtus Contracts Management has been appointed to provide project management and quantity surveying services for the redevelopment.
