The project, for South Lanarkshire Council, involves construction of a new three-storey steel-framed building with 16 classrooms as well as a dining hall and a gym. Total floor area is 3600m2. External walls are timber infill panels clad with brickwork, timber rainscreen and glass curtain walling. Completion is set for summer 2015.

Rebuilding Woodside Primary School is part of a £54m contract in which Morgan Sindall will construct nine school buildings over the next three years on Phase 2, Tranche 2 of South Lanarkshire Council’s £150m primary school modernisation programme. These schools also include Carstairs Junction Primary School, Carstairs Village Primary School and Forth Primary School.

It is part of South Lanarkshire Council’s wider £814m programme to rebuild all 129 of the area’s primary schools by 2016. Kier and Lend Lease are the council’s other construction partners for the programme.

Morgan Sindall area director Eddie Carr said: “We are delighted to have started work at Woodside Primary School. Morgan Sindall has a proven track record of delivering education projects both on time and on budget, and it is exciting to be involved in providing this new education facility for the local community.”
