Salini Impregilo wins €300m Qatar roads and drainage scheme

10 Jul 15 Salini Impregilo has been appointed to build primary urban infrastructure for Shamal, a Qatar residential area that is set for expansion.

The €300m (£216m) contract award came a day after winning the contract for the Al Khor sports complex, a venue for the Fifa 2022 World Cup.

Shamal is about 100 km from the capital, Doha, in the extreme northern area of Qatar. The €300m project is worth is part of a framework contract for local roads and drainage. Salini Impregilo, part of a consortium created with Bin Omran of Qatar, beat three other teams from the Gulf area, Asia and the USA.

The work, which has to be completed within a 30-month time span, was awarded to Salini Impregilo by the Public Works Authority of Ashghal, the entity responsible for public infrastructure in Qatar.

Salini Impregilo’s contract covers approximately 25% of the area to be developed as well as other works.

The entire area for residential development measures 1,043ha and is connected to Doha through the North Road.
