Skanska picked for Norwegian hydro plant

Skanska is to build a NOK350m (£32m) hydroelectric power station at a remote Norwegian site, parts of which can only be reached by helicopter.

Its contract with SFE Produksjon for the Østerbø power plant in Høyanger includes 7.1km- long tunnel in amountain, the drilling of shafts, blasting and concrete work. The area in which the power plant will be built built has particularly good conditions for hydropower, with a natural water reservoir with high storage capacity.

SFE Produksjon is carrying out the project in collaboration with BKK Produksjon. Østerbø power plant will have an annual output of 165GWh, which corresponds to the consumption of about 8,000 households.

Construction will begin next month and the project will be completed during 2020.
