Swindon subbies wanted for £121m defence project

11 Mar 14 Hercules, the Balfour Beatty and Kier joint venture, wants to meet local contractors in the Swindon area to support its £121m project at MoD Lyneham, where it is building the new Defence College of Technical Training.

Contractors from Swindon are invited to a free ‘meet the buyer’ event on Tuesday 18th March at The Wiltshire Golf Club, Swindon, hosted by Constructionline.

The event will provide an opportunity for potential supply chain partners to find out about the planned works and selection criteria to qualify to bid for work.

The project includes the refurbishment of approximately 73,000m2 of existing building stock and constructing 56,000m2 of new build in addition to demolition, infrastructure works, external and internal training areas, sports pitches, vehicle recovery training facility and landscaping.

Hercules construction manager Richard Collin said: “Working with a local supply chain is at the heart of the Hercules procurement plan. This approach will contribute to the local economy and Constructionline’s event will help us access a range of professionals to help establish our local supply chain.”

Constructionline is a government-owned service that runs a register of pre-qualified construction suppliers. It hosts a regular programme of events to help connect contractors, consultants and material suppliers with those responsible for overseeing construction projects.

The event is free but registration is advised. For more information or to register interest, go to www.constructionline.co.uk/static/events/index.html
