Tendering begins for Bendigo stadium expansion

9 Oct 15 Bendigo in Victoria, Australia, is opening the tender process for the expansion of the city’s stadium and construction of a new leisure centre.

The city of Greater Bendigo is set to call for expressions of interest on both projects tomorrow.

Mayor Peter Cox said that the combined budget of over AU$46.5m (£21.9m) for the new Aquatic Leisure & Wellbeing Centre and Bendigo Stadium redevelopment projects makes them the largest package of works the city has ever released. “It’s even more significant considering it is coming off the back of the $15 million Bendigo Airport redevelopment tender that we released earlier this week,” he added. “With the planning permits issued we are now moving into the procurement phase for both of these major projects and I encourage interested contractors to download the Expressions of Interest documents from www.tenderlink.com/bendigo.”

Both contracts are expected to go to tender in early 2016 with construction to be commenced shortly afterwards.  The stadium is expected to take about 12 months to complete while construction of the new aquatic centre should take 15 months.

The leisure centre will include a 50m eight-lane Olympic swimming pool as well as other pools and facilities including a gymnasium and café.

The expansion of the Bendigo Stadium includes court expansion, an upgrade of the existing outdoor netball facility and construction of spectator seating to cater for up to 4,000 people at concerts and sporting events.
