Western Australia introduces building code of conduct

6 Dec 16 Fair treatment of subcontractors – including timely payment – are among the measures outlined a new code of conduct that comes into force in Western Australia on 1st January 2017.

A compliance framework is also being set up so that a company’s performance may be taken into consideration when future state building work is being awarded.

The Western Australian Building & Construction Industry Code of Conduct 2016 is designed to ensure that the public funds are only spent with contractors that conduct themselves in a reputable, fair, safe and responsible manner. This applies both to their dealings with the state and within the building and construction industry more generally.

The code is also intended to promote fair, efficient and productive workplace relations in the industry and to improve the workplace relations framework under which building and construction activities are performed. Use of safe practices is also mandated.
