World record-breaking solar panels come to UK market

3 Nov 11 The world’s most efficient solar panels commercially available " as certified by the Guinness World Records " are now available to British homeowners.

US-based SunPower E20 solar panels, the world’s most efficient solar panels, have signed a deal with the UK’s leading solar panel company, Ploughcroft – the solar roof installation partner for Vaillant Plc, Plumb Center (Wolseley Plc.) and NPower. The company is the first in the UK to offer SunPower E20 panels to British domestic and commercial solar customers.

Designed to offer a huge 8% return on investment, based on the new Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) of 21p per kW, it’s easy to see why the SunPower E20 panels have broken a Guinness World Record. Offering the highest levels of efficiency in the UK (20%), these solar panels provide more power than any other currently available. The panels are of standard size (1.5m x 1.05m), which result in homeowners only needing 12 E20 panels fitted on their roof to achieve 4kW (the FIT cap level) instead of the current 16-20 panels.

Chris Hopkins, managing director at Ploughcroft Solar said: “The UK is the world’s fastest growing market for solar technology, and as Ploughcroft is the leading solar installer, then it is fitting that we are able to offer our customers these amazing panels. The ultra efficiency means that even in cloudy or overcast conditions these panels work better than any other.

“We’re really impressed with the outstanding energy delivery per peak power watt, and with the recent announcement to cut the FIT rate then these panels are sure to appeal to homeowners looking for a good return on their investment. The E20 panels could quickly become the most popular panel available to homeowners.”

The unique cell technology within the SunPower E20 panel is now fully Microgeneration Certification Scheme accredited (awarded 28 October 2011) and offers an output of 333w compared to the industry high of 250w.

Confirming his position as one of the most regarded voices in the solar industry, Chris has recently been appointed to the Green Construction Board (GCB).  The GCB consists of government and industry experts who will drive forward the actions set out in the Low Carbon Construction Action Plan.
