Progress on Folkestone garrison development

26 Mar 14 Taylor Wimpey has exchanged contracts with the Ministry of Defence on a land deal that will see a 1200-home development start in Kent next year.

Taylor Wimpey is buying the surplus land at Shorncliffe Garrison in Folkestone, which is being re-configured onto a smaller, more secure site.

Replacement facilities for the army are being built as part of a rolling programme of improvements at Shorncliffe and nearby Lydd Camp.

Subject to planning permission, Taylor Wimpey hopes to start on site before the end of 2015.

Senior land and planning manager Joanna Webb said: “We are delighted to have exchanged contracts for the Shorncliffe Garrison development site. We have conducted extensive public consultation with the local community in the preparation of our proposals over the past few months and we are currently finalising a planning application for submission to Shepway District Council in April.”

Taylor Wimpey was selected last year as preferred developer for the site.
