Examinations Engineer (Track)

Job Description

McGinley Support services are looking for Track Examination Engineers for work in Northern Ireland. All travel and accommodation will be provided.

The Examinations Engineer (Track) will be responsible for the detailed examination and visual inspection programme of all Track assets, ensuring that comprehensive reports are provided to show their condition and to inform maintenance requirements. You will be responsible for providing information to the Track Section Manager to aid both maintenance and capital work schemes ensuring the safety of the railway and maintaining operational performance.


The following reflects typical duties and is not intended to be a comprehensive description of all tasks:

- Inspection of key Track assets, including Plain line, Switch and Crossings, Buffer stops, sidings and yards.
- Supervision of staff carrying out daily patrols, allocating workloads, and assisting in the establishment of safe systems of work.
- Providing detailed reports on condition of the assets to inform the annual maintenance requirement and capital works.
- Collection and prioritization of all defects. Compiling and closing out work orders.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders regarding planned works and inspections.
- Liaising with neighbours and statutory agencies regarding complaints relating to Off-Track assets
- Carry out quality checks of works completed, and safety inspections of contractors and staff involved.
* Adhering to RAMS and working instructions for all Track works and inspections.

Experience Required:

- Experience of applying health, safety and environmental legislation requirements.
- Experience of interpreting and working to engineering standards.
- Experience in asset condition inspection, workload prioritization and technical specification
- Ability to maintain accurate inspection records and produce reports and project documentation.

Qualifications Required:

Possess a minimum of an HND/HNC (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant engineering or construction discipline with at least 3 years relevant experience in a practical engineering environment working with plant, labour and materials to undertake inspections, engineering and/or construction works.
