Job Description

Company Overview: Our north Nottingham pre-cast client requires an estimator on a permanent basis. The client is a leading manufacturer of architectural and structural precast concrete products for the housing, civils, rail, landscaping, utilities, offshore and flood defence sectors. As they expand production, they are seeking a skilled Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team. If you have a passion for precision, cost management, and collaboration, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor:

  • Supporting the sales team and overseeing the estimating team to ensure accurate tender prices and cost forecasting.
  • Assist in identifying the client's requirements.
  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts and orders from clients.
  • Preparing and negotiating tenders, subcontracts and POs for suppliers.
  • Supporting the Project Manager in managing all aspects of the project budget through the project lifecycle, producing detailed cost reports and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Submitting payment applications and final accounts promptly.
  • Valuing completed work and arranging for payments to subcontractors.
  • Tracking Variations and other Notices, ensuring they are raised in accordance with the contract.
  • Advising the Project Manager on contractual requirements and issues ensuring the project team remain compliant with the relevant contractual obligations.
  • Maintaining and improving the supplier database.
  • Advising on procurement strategy to ensure a robust procurement process.
  • Agreeing terms and negotiating rates with key suppliers
  • Liaising with external stakeholders

Skills and Experience of the Quantity Surveyor:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 3 years' or equivalent experience working autonomously in a QS role on construction projects. Precast experience is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of the JCT and NEC contract frameworks.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and accountable attitude with a friendly and helpful approach towards clients and colleagues.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Competent in MS Office applications, experience and familiarity with MS Dynamics beneficial.

Desirable:

  • Degree in quantity surveying, HNC or HND desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in civils, concrete or pre-cast concrete would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • CSCS Card would be beneficial.

Location of the Quantity Surveyor role:

The Quantity Surveyor will be based on our Client's North Nottingham Manufacturing unit, but may be required to attend client sites from time to time.
