The wall surrounding the ramp and steps at Lovemead Car Park in Trowbridge previously featured an enclosed design, which left many users feeling unsafe due to limited visibility.

As part of the Government’s Safer Streets initiative, sections of the wall needed to be removed and replaced with open railings. This upgrade was designed to improve sightlines and create natural surveillance between the car park and Roundstone Street, helping to enhance public safety.

To ensure precision and prevent damage during the cutting process, we began by diamond drilling 25 holes at 102mm diameter. This step was critical in avoiding overcutting at the corners during the track sawing phase, where the saw blade could otherwise extend beyond the intended lines.

Lifting holes were also drilled to allow for safe and efficient removal of the wall sections. These enabled lifting straps to be securely positioned, ensuring controlled handling once the concrete had been fully isolated.

We completed 15lm, 300mm deep of vertical cuts made with Husqvarna K6500 Prime Ring Saw. 35lm of horizontal cuts, 300mm deep were completed using our 3-phase Tyrolit Track Mounted Saw.

Isolated sections of wall were lifted out by crane and removed from site.

The completed works have significantly improved visibility within the area, contributing to a safer and more open environment for car park users.
