Project Announcement: Prince Charles Hospital - Refurbishment works

5 Nov 20 After recently successfully completing an asbestos abatement contract with a value of £2m, for Phases 1a and 1b at PCH with our client Interserve Construction Ltd (ICL), it gives us immense pride to announce that Shield Services Group have successfully secured the phase 2 asbestos abatement package at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, with a contract value of circa £11m.

Project Announcement: Prince Charles Hospital - Refurbishment works

‘Shield Services Group pride ourselves in working alongside our clients to deliver high profile and technically challenging projects across all our business sectors, and this is no exception. All the phase 2 works as with previous phases 1a and 1b at PCH, will be carried out in and around the live environment of a fully operational hospital. Working within any live environment brings it’s challenges, however, with the vast experience and knowledge developed on this and other major health care projects, we are confident in delivering another successful project for our client.

This project, when works commence early 2021, will be one of the largest, if not the largest, asbestos remediation projects that will be undertaken in the UK. In the current financial climate and amidst the COVID 19 Pandemic, this is much needed positive news for the local community of Merthyr Tydfil and the South Wales valleys where we will be looking to add to our local labour resources to facilitate our contracted works.’

Dean Howe, Regional Director for Wales and Group Business Development Director

After the completion of Phase 1b,Chris Edmonds from Prince Charles Hospital said:

“Shield carried out what was a logistically very difficult Asbestos removal project, in a very professional manner. All aspects of the work were carried out with the highest standards of H&S, quality and efficiency. Due to the nature of the works we encountered many problems but Shield always managed to adapt to help the overall progression of the project. The multi disciplines of Shield were one of the key factors in being awarded the contract and they came into great use. It has been a pleasure to work with Shield and I would highly recommend them”.
