Bam is preferred contractor for a £19m construction contract at Winterbourne International Academy, part of The Ridings’ Federation of Academies, in Bristol.

It will demolish some buildings and build a three-storey, 11,500 sq m facility in the courtyard of the centre of the academy’s existing buildings. It will also extend an existing technology block before decanting the students and demolishing many of the current buildings.

The project will provide improved facilities for 1,900 students with faculties located on single floors rather than split levels.

The project is due to start on site in August 2012 and complete in December 2014.

The second contract, worth £6.5m, is a design and build job for a major refurbishment and part new build of Bristol Free School.

Works include refurbishing and refitting a 5,000 sq m block for classrooms, science labs and technology rooms, as well as building a sports hall with attached dance and drama studio.

Subject to planning permission, BAM aims to start on site in July 2012 and complete in May 2013.
