Two 168m-high chimneys on a Lafarge Cement site in Kent were demolished by controlled explosion over the weekend.

Scores of people watched the 'blow down' of the twin towers at Northfleet, on the southern Thames estuary.

Erith is the contractor in charge of what is believed to be the largest demolition project in Europe.

The demolition marks the end of nearly 200 years of cement production at Northfleet.

Lafarge wants to build a mixed use development on the site, plus an aggregates import terminal.
