AB2000 takes over Ellon Plant Hire

9 Sep 13 Scottish plant hire firm AB2000 has continued its geographic spread with the acquisition of Ellon Plant Hire for approximately £300,000.

AB2000’s main depot is in Cambuslang, near Glasgow. Last year it opened a depot in Inverness and more recently acquired premises for an Aberdeen operation.

Aberdeenshire-based Ellon Plant will continue to trade under its own name, with former owner Arlene Harrison remaining as plant manager. Ellon Plant will relocate to AB2000’s new Aberdeen premises at Fountainbleau, Tipperty.

Former Hewden manager David Christie, AB2000’s northern area manager, takes charge of the Inverness and Aberdeen depots.

AB2000 is owned by Adam Bruce, past president of the Scottish Plant Owners Association. He said: “Buying Ellon Plant Hire Ltd brings us local operators and management, and an established customer base.  The deal (worth around a third of a million pounds) provides AB2000 with an excellent platform from which to expand our business in the northeast of Scotland.”

Mr Bruce formed AB 2000 in 1995. In 2002 the company acquired the specialised rail plant assets of G Plant Rail Ltd. In 2005 it added the mobile crane and plant fleet of Motherwell Bridge.
