Eric Stenman becomes CEO of the business and will sit on the group executive committee, reporting directly to group CEO Leo Quinn.

Stenman joined Balfour Beatty in 2008 with the acquisition of Douglas E Barnhart. He has held a number of senior positions over the past 14 years, most recently as president of Balfour Beatty US.

Balfour’s US buildings & civils business currently employs around 4,000 people and turns over approximately US$4.5bn (£3.7bn) annually.

Stenman replaces Leon Blondin who becomes US chairman, focusing on the US business strategy and supporting Stenman in the transition to his new role.

Mark Konchar, currently managing director of Balfour Beatty’s US rail business, is promoted to division president for US civils & rail. He will report directly to Stenman.

Konchar has been with Balfour Beatty since 1999 and has worked in a variety of roles in procurement, project delivery, large-scale design-build, and on public-private partnership projects.

“The US is an important market for the group, with excellent prospects,” commented group CEO Leo Quinn. “Leon’s elevation to US chairman will maintain his strong involvement with the business as he evolves our strategy for the next decade of exciting growth.

He added: "At the same time, I am confident that Eric’s step-up to CEO – given his long career with Balfour Beatty and in the wider industry – will ensure our continued success, through flawless execution of our focus on high value private projects and Federal and State infrastructure investment.”
