Bradfords takes over two Burdens branches

27 Nov 12 The break-up of builders’ merchant Burdens continues with the acquisition of two of its depots by the Bradfords Group.

At the start of this month Wolseley acquired 22 Burdens branches for £30m, leaving Burdens with a rump business that now stands at 22 depots.

Rumours of uncertainty about the remainder of the Burdens group have continued to circulate and on Friday 23 November Bradfords took over former Burdens sites at Cinderford in Gloucestershire and Dorchester in Dorset. These depots will now trade as Bradfords Building Supplies.

Bradfords now has 29 branches across the southwest of England. Managing director Dennis Smith said: “This acquisition is in line with our strategy to add branches within our geographical trading area, and I am very excited about the opportunities the deal creates. This strengthens our network in two areas where we have been looking to develop further. We are delighted to welcome the new staff into the Bradfords family.

“As for our customers and suppliers, existing and new, this is a clear demonstration of our commitment to continue to grow the Bradfords network of branches to our mutual benefit.”
