CH2M Hill to support US Navy in Africa

24 Sep 12 A CH2M Hill-led joint venture has been awarded a contract to provide design and build services to the US Navy in Africa.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic and NAVFAC Europe Africa Southwest Asia (EURAFSWA) awarded the US$62m (£38m) task order for a 185,000m2 concrete combat aircraft loading area, three fabric maintenance hangars, a 68,000m2 asphalt taxiway extension and an ammunition supply point. The facilities are required to support operational missions at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.

CH2M Hill is teamed with long-term Turkish construction partner Metag.

“Camp Lemonnier is undergoing a major transformation in the next few years from expeditionary to permanent facilities in support of the diverse AFRICOM mission,” said CH2M Hill program manager Bryan Bodner. "We are ready to employ our successful overseas contingency design-build delivery model with our Turkish partners and look forward to supporting a long-time and valued client in a new market."

Camp Lemonnier, situated at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport, is the only US military base in Africa. Construction will continue through to 2014.
