Colour coding now available for hi vis hard hats

30 May 13 A safety equipment supplier is seeking to promote the idea of colour coded hard hats for construction.

JSP has been promoting its EvoLite CR2 reflective stickers for hard hats for some time, to help night worker be more visible. It has now taken this idea forward to promote a range of different coloured reflective strips according to function on site.

While site managers can decide their own colour coding scheme, JSP suggests that green invariably denotes a first-aider, while orange normally indicates a banksman. Blue is commonly used for site managers or contract agents, and red for fire marshals.

Business development manager Simon Apsey said: “It`s amazing that such a simple, inexpensive, idea can make such a difference. It is normally the head that gets in harm’s way first, so it needs to be illuminated. By putting coloured, highly- reflective, strips all round the helmet, JSP is making workers on our highways and construction sites visible in all conditions. The response from customers has been extremely positive, and many leading contractors have already adopted the system as standard.”
