Client for the scheme is the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) of New Orleans. RTA received a US$45m (£28m) grant last year from the US Department of Transportation to build a 2.25km streetcar loop through the central business district. RTA subsequently sold approximately US$80n million in revenue bonds in 2010 to fund an expansion in the French Quarter as well.
Parsons Brinckerhoff will serve as the RTA’s construction manager for both these phases and a third serving the Riverfront and convention centre. The Parsons Brinckerhoff team will be responsible for providing construction management and support staff throughout construction. The firm will also monitor and control the project schedule and budget.
Construction on the first phase of the streetcar expansion is now getting under way, with completion slated for June 2012.
