Expansion for Profab Access

3 Mar 14 Profab Access, a West Midlands manufacturer of access panels, riser doors and loft hatches, is moving to a new factory to keep up with rising demand.

Profab has supplied many of London’s new landmark tall buildings, including the Shard at London Bridge and the Cheesegrater at 122 Leadenhall Street. It is currently working on 5 Broadgate, the new UBS headquarters.

Profab only moved into its current premises on the Carlyon Road industrial estate in Atherstone, Warwickshire seven years ago but has already run out of space. It says that it has to operate “24/7 with both a day shift and a night shift”.

To help maintain growth, it is moving into a new factory space on the same industrial estate. The new premises will give it 44,000 square foot of space, roughly three times the 15,000 square foot from which it has been operating.

Technical director Austin Stone said that, apart from giving the company more space to grow, the new factory would enable the 48-strong workforce to reunite once again, all working in the daytime, with no need for a night shift.

It also provides more space for research & development. “We pride ourselves on being able to offer a quality bespoke service to our customers and coming up with new solutions to their problems,” he said.

“The new site not only gives us more room for fabrication and production, enabling us to maintain our short lead times, but also gives us more room for testing and new product development, which is an important part of what we do.”

Profab Access has grown steadily since being established 13 years ago by Adrian Albrighton and Austin Stone. Its products are distributed nationwide by Commercial Ceiling Factors (CCF), part of the Travis Perkins Group, and Encon Insulation.

Turnover for the year to 31 March 2014 is set to top £4 million for the first time.  Under the new business plan – with the new factory – the aim is to double this within the next five years.
