GB Building Solutions enhancing the community by developing the largest indoor skatepark in the UK

11 Aug 10 GB Building Solutions has been awarded a 4.2m Extreme Connexions sports facility for Sportspace

Dacorum Sports Trust which will include the largest indoor, combined timber and concrete, skate park in the UK.  

Unlike other sports facilities, this one will contain a kaleidoscope of facilities and services tailored specifically for local young people, all under one roof.  As well as the skate park, the new development, will contain an enormous 60m x 15m high climbing wall; indoor caving; and extensive high ropes course.

For young people who prefer music and performance, there will be a music recording studio, a band rehearsal room, plus media, film and performance studios. A teen-focused health centre, counselling rooms, internet access, café and an advice & support centre, together with office space for youth workers, advisers and trainers will be provided creating a world class facility for young people.

Engaging with Extreme Connexions Youth Board is key to GB’s approach of working closely with local communities; as part of this a local trainee will be selected to work as part of the team on site, developing essential life and technical skills to kick start a career in construction.

Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Building Solutions says, “GB has built numerous sports facilities over the past five years, but this one really is in a class of its own in terms of what it will provide for young people.  Working closely with Sportspace, Dacorum Sports Trust we will create work experience and learning opportunities for young people classified by the Government as ‘NEET’s’, youngpeople currently ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’.

“With the largest indoor skatepark and one of the largest indoor climbing walls, combined with performance and support facilities, this centre will be unrivalled in the UK.”

Work on the site will begin in September and is expected to last 39 weeks.
