HCA picks Keepmoat for £30m housing scheme

5 Sep 13 Keepmoat has been chosen as the preferred developer for remaining phases of the Allerton Bywater housing scheme in Yorkshire.

The £30m scheme for the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) will see the development of 162 homes for sale and 29 for affordable rent.  In addition to the new homes, Keepmoat will also develop 30,000 sq. ft. of commercial development on Park Lane.

The area has seen significant redevelopment since the closure of Allerton Bywater’s coalmine in 1992.  The Allerton Bywater Millennium Community Development was established in 2006. Since then, the HCA, working in partnership with selected developers, has been working on the development of 520 new homes and associated facilities including a primary school.

HCA area manager Naomi Beckett said: “This is the culmination of many years of hard work by the HCA, our partners and predecessors. These new homes, which Keepmoat will build around homezones will complete the scheme and ensure that the homes at Allerton Bywater have all been built to the original design code and meet same very high standards.”

Plans will be submitted to Leeds City Council in October and, if successful, work is expected to start on site in May 2014.  The scheme will take five years to complete.
