Kent firm GML Construction wins fastest-growing company accolade

13 Oct 11 On Wednesday, 5 October at the MegaGrowth 50 awards in Maidstone, GML Construction was named as the seventh fastest growing firm in the county. That’s 25 places up on last year’s achievement when GML Construction was listed as the 32nd fastest growing company in Kent. The company’s percentage growth from 2009/10 to 2010/11 was 44percent. Pre-tax profits for 2010/11 were £336,000.

Last month the company was named as SME of the Year at the London and South East final of the Constructing Excellence Awards 2011.

GML Construction is part of the GML Group, which is made up of several companies; GML Construction working in the commercial building sector; Henry Thomas Homes, building luxury homes and The Green Home Company who deliver renewable energy solutions for the domestic market. The group has already won awards for sustainable and environmentally friendly building design achieved by delivering spectacular and innovative buildings and staying true to its core values.

From its headquarters in Coxheath, near Maidstone, the GML Group now employs 130 people. That has increased from 40 people at this time last year.

MegaGrowth 50 – the 50 fastest growing companies in Kent – is now celebrating its 10th year. The awards are supported by the Kent Messenger Group in association with accounting firm Reeves and Lloyds TSB Commercial. It ranks businesses by growth in turnover.

GML Group Managing Director Alan Proto was at the presentation, with colleague Operations Director Trevor Barnes, to receive a framed certificate.

Alan said: “I am absolutely thrilled; it has been an incredible 12 months for the GML Group. Our growth and expansion has been recognised today in the MegaGrowth 50. A year ago when we were at position 32 I said there was a can-do ethos towards customer service that runs right through the company and that is even truer today.

“Moving up to number seven demonstrates that despite the economic conditions we have all experienced over the past couple of years, the GML group is doing its best to push forward, creating jobs along the way. We have nearly tripled our workforce in the past two years. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at GML who work so hard day after day.’’

GML was established in 1991 and this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It has an annual turnover of £20million.
