The school’s creative arts bock caught fire on 27 December 2012 after being struck by lightning. Temporary accommodation previously used at the London 2012 Olympics’ athletes village was brought in as a stop-gap replacement in April, allowing the school to return to its normal timetable.

Dorset County Council has awarded Midas a £5m contract to build a permanent replacement, which has been designed by Poole-based Godsell Arnold Partnership Ltd.
