Miller consortium signs £139m deal for 13 more Leicester schools

29 May 13 The Leicester Miller Education Company (LMEC) has signed contracts on a further 13 schools in the Leicester Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, totalling £139m in construction and ICT value.

LMEC, a partnership between Miller Construction, Leicester City Council, Semperian and BSFi, will manage the development of the projects which contain a mix of new build & refurbished secondary and special educational needs (SEN) schools.

Miller Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the design, build and refurbishment of all 13 schools, while Capita Managed IT Solutions will provide ICT services.

Miller Construction chief executive Chris Webster said: “We are delighted to have reached yet another key milestone in the Leicester BSF Programme.  This significant achievement has only been possible as a result of the determination and strong partnership between ourselves, Leicester City Council, LMEC, and the schools involved.

“We have either completed or are currently on site with eight schools in the programme and our site teams are looking forward to continuing their close working relationship with Leicester City Council, the schools and the local communities to deliver each of these projects safely and successfully.”

Councillor Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor, said: “This great achievement means that we are delivering Leicester’s biggest ever investment in our schools.  Because of this, our young people will have exceptional learning environments and be inspired by new learning experiences now and into the future. I am pleased and congratulate all concerned that, by working in partnership, we have made this possible for the learners of Leicester City.”

LMEC is also nearing contract close on the final school in the Leicester BSF programme, Ash Field Academy, which is expected to reach contractual commitment by the summer.

Moat Community College

The Lancaster School

English Martyrs School

St Paul’s School

Babington Community College

Hamilton Community College

Nether Hall School

West Gate School

The schools nearing contract close are:

The schools now on site are:

Crown Hills Community College

The City of Leicester College

Rushey Mead School

The completed schools are:

Fullhurst Community College

Judge Meadow Community College
