NHBC launches new Site Manager Accreditation Programme

14 Oct 10 To mark the launch of its new Site Manager Accreditation Programme, NHBC (National House Building Council) is offering 1,000 free places on the programme to site managers working for NHBC registered builders.

With a raft of regulatory changes to get to grips with, the scheme will help ensure sites are compliant and site managers are delivering a consistently high level of quality on site.

All accredited site managers registered with the scheme will have access to two free CPD events per year and an online CPD programme, which will provide very low cost and accessible training, as well as low cost access to CIOB CPD programmes. Other benefits include discounts on selected NHBC training courses and reduced costs on initial membership to CIOB.

Rob Lockey, training services manager at NHBC said, “Over the past year there have been many changes to building regulations and although building levels may not be as high as they were three years ago, it is still vital that site managers are up to speed with the revisions.”

“This programme offers the opportunity for site managers to ensure they are up to date with new technological advances and regulatory changes and can deliver a high level of quality and compliance on site.”

To qualify for one of the 1,000 free places, site managers have to pass an initial accreditation check which focuses on the following areas:

  • CSCS card – all applicants must hold an appropriate platinum card or professionally qualified card
  • A site quality check – for NHBC warranty sites, this will be through the inspection service
  • Online assessment – for initial accreditation, site managers will need to pass an extensive online assessment via the new e-learning hub. This will assess approaches to technical, managerial and procedural issues

Re-accreditation will be required every year and will involve a shorter assessment of current technical knowledge, as well as a repeat of the CSCS and site quality checks. After the first year, the cost of this will be £45 plus VAT per annum.

Site managers who are not working for NHBC-registered builders are also welcome to apply for the scheme at additional cost.
